Cats complete campaign

Neerim South completed a remarkable finals campaign from fourth position, defeating minor premier Lang Lang 31-27 to claim the C grade premiership after entering every match of the finals series knowing there was no second chance.

There was little between the sides from the outset. Lang Lang scored the opening goal before Neerim settled under strong pressure to take a narrow 9-7 lead into quarter time.
The contest became increasingly physical in the second term, with both teams forcing turnovers and making each other work for every possession. Lang Lang continued to apply relentless pressure and was rewarded by half-time, drawing level at 14-14.
The Tigers made the stronger start after the break, scoring the opening three goals of the third quarter, but Neerim refused to allow them to get away. Quick hands and patient feeding through the Lang Lang defence helped the Cats regain control, edging ahead 22-21 at three-quarter time to set up a final-quarter shootout.
It was Neerim who found another gear when the premiership was there to be won. Their defensive pressure lifted in the critical moments and they created enough breathing room to take control of the contest.
Lang Lang fought until the end and scored the final three goals of the match, but the charge came too late as the Cats completed their journey from fourth place with a 31-27 victory.
Best on court: Neerim South captain Emily Robb was named best on court for the second consecutive final, capping an extraordinary week after also claiming her second straight EDFNL C grade best and fairest at the league vote count.
