Birthday gift shared
Amelia Ewing’s ninth birthday wish was to raise money for a charity bringing clean and safe water to people in developing countries.

Most children approaching their birthday would have an impressive list of gifts in mind. For Amelia Ewing of Warragul, her only aim was to bring clean and safe water to people in developing countries. Instead of receiving gifts for her ninth birthday, Amelia asked family and friends to donate to “Charity: Water” and has already raised almost $300 for the cause. Proud mum Adrienne Ewing said her daughter had been inspired by stories of other people around the world making a difference. Although difficult to part with monetary gifts amid thoughts of what it could buy, Amelia is delighted her birthday will make a difference to those most in need. “Charity: Water” stated 1400 children die from diseases caused by unsafe water and poor sanitation every day. The not-for-profit uses simple solutions like drilled wells, spring protections and BioSand filters to help provide clean water to communities across the world. Amelia still got a birthday treat with a donation party in Civic Park on Wednesday. If you wish to help Amelia’s cause, visit charitywater.org/amelia-ewing/give-take-for-amelia-s-9th-birthday.
