Hallora (122) def. by Iona (128)
Iona held their nerve in a tight run contest against Hallora, the Swamp Tigers attack able to stave off the efforts of the Kangaroos to snatch a six-run win.
On the back of a team-first batting performance – with six batters making it to double figures but none making more than Samuel Accardi's 27 – Iona made their way to 128.
Aaron Summergreene (3/43) and John Riley (3/28) impressed with ball-in-hand and ensured that the Swamp Tigers wouldn't post a more sizeable total.
In reply, Daniel Sell (29, including a host of powerfully struck boundaries) and Alan Miller (25) were on song with the bat, but James Weitering (3/20) and double wicket strikes from Troy Ross, Zac O'Hara and Jason Siegel kept Iona in the hunt.
In the end their persistence with the ball provided them the advantage, dismissing Hallora for 122 in the 38th over.
Catani (9/144) def. by Western Park (3/145)
Jakeb Jorgensen's blitzkrieg helped Western Park romp to a seven-wicket win over Catani in their division four clash, with the Warriors making light work of a potentially challenging target.
The Cats had posted 9/144 from their allotted overs thanks to Nathaniel Wade (61* off 77) anchoring the innings.
The all-rounder batted with aplomb, his careful shot selection ensuring he was never put his wicket in danger whilst also accelerating Catani's scoring.
Gordon Winstone (4/26) made regular incisions to halt the scoring rate, as the seamer's decision to attack the stumps paid dividends.
Whilst Winstone (37 from 67) and Oliver Dexter (19 off 31) provided Western Park with a solid start to their pursuit, the innings – and the result – was put beyond doubt from the get-go of Jorgensen's knock.
Blasting boundary after boundary, he took advantage of some lax bowling to smear 72* from just 28 balls (including 43 from the last 12 balls he faced) as the Warriors reached 3/145 in the 29th over.
Garfield-Tynong (4/167) vs Neerim District
Matthew Trofa's dynamic half-century propelled Garfield-Tynong to a position of strength in their clash with Neerim District, but his efforts ultimately went unrewarded as the elements ensured the contest was a draw.
Seeing off some testing spells from Logan Naus (2/26) and Will Tomlin (2/25), Trofa's counter-attacking efforts – which saw him post 60* from 84 balls – helped the Titans accelerate through the middle overs of the innings, with Samuel O'Hara (58 off 77) providing admirable support.
Together they helped lift Garfield-Tynong to 4/167 at the end of their allotted overs, although rain curtailed play in the innings break to deny the Titans a chance to defend their total.
