Top win for Tigers

by Davyd Reid
The top of the table clash between Lang Lang and Longwarry under lights lived up to its billing as the home side prevailed in an enthralling contest.
In a clash between two of the big improvers in the Ellinbank District competition, the Tigers were able to overcome a fast-starting Crows to settle the contest and ultimately win 11-11 (77) to 8-4 (52).
The match began with a special Anzac ceremony, Lang Lang continuing its tradition and doing a good job of sharing the celebrations among the clubs, the Crows being the fourth club involved in the concept.
Following on from its high-scoring effort last week, the Crows burst out of the blocks to again threaten to pile on another big score.
Five goals to two had the home side on the back foot heading into the first change.
The Tigers were able to wrest back momentum, scoring three goals to one to reach half time just three points in arrears.
A dour battle followed in the third term, the Crows scoring 2-1 over a wasteful 1-5 effort from the Tigers to see the visitor maintain a narrow five-point margin at the final change.
Ultimately the Tigers would step up under pressure, adding five goals to just one behind in the final term.
With much intrigue around the battle between spearheads Marc Holt and Jason Wells, honours were shared with three goals apiece.
Brad Harding, Bradley Clark, Lachlan Barwick, Joshua Brown and Jesse Hand helped the Tigers charge home to victory.
Fintan Fox, Ben Cuckson, Kane Oldham, Angus Young, Angus Adamiak and Liam Kirkman ensured the Crows were always in the contest.
