Bank to the rescue after scout hall crime

Following a story and a letter to the editor in The Gazette about a recent burglary at the Warragul Scout Hall, new security cameras are set to be installed thanks to funding from the Drouin and District Community Bank.
The need for cameras increased last week when scout leaders discovered a second break-in attempt at the hall.
Warragul Scout Group leader Sharn Juster said after recent renovations to the Warragul Scout Hall, the group was not in a financial position to purchase cameras.
"To have these guys help us out is a big deal," he said.
When the Community Bank team read about the burglary in the Gazette, marketing and sponsorship committee chair Shaun Mallia said they "couldn't just stand by."
"The scouts are such an important part of our community - teaching young people resilience, teamwork and service, and it didn't sit right with us to see their efforts disrupted by something so disheartening," Mr Mallia said.
"For 23 years, this community has supported the Drouin and District Community Bank, and moments like this are exactly why we exist: to step in, stand beside our community and give back when it's needed most.
"Through our sponsorship program, we were able to provide funding to help Sharn and the scouts fund a security system so they can keep doing what they do best with confidence," he said.
