The front brick walls of the Warragul Exhibition Hall came tumbling down on Friday morning.
They were the last bricks standing of the iconic building which hosted weddings, gala balls, live music concerts, discos, agricultural show exhibits and playgroup sessions over many decades.
Demolition crews began at the back of the Howitt St site and it took a week - partly due to the Melbourne Cup public holiday - to complete the demolition, with the clean-up continuing yesterday.
Significant structural damage saw Baw Baw Shire immediately close the hall late last year.
Faced with a $2 million repair bill, councillors voted to permanently close and demolish it in March. There are no future plans for the site.
Warragul and District Historical Society said an exhibition shed opened on the site in 1937, built of corrugated iron with a sand floor. The hall was developed in the 1950s with a timber floor laid and stage built. In 1973, a new entrance was created and the corrugated iron was replaced with new brickwork.
