Firewood investigators seize property
1 min read

Alleged firewood thieves discovered a 290km getaway wasn't far enough following the execution of a search warrant in Drouin earlier this month.
Conservation Regulation Victoria said forest and wildlife officers from its "Taskforce Ironbark", together with Victoria Police, executed a search warrant at a Drouin property on August 7 as part of an investigation tackling organised firewood crime.

It is alleged men were detected illegally cutting timber in the Tarnagulla State Forest, west of Bendigo, on May 29 and the wood was loaded into a white Nissan tipper truck.
The men are accused of felling a significant number of ironbark trees with the intention of selling the timber commercially into the black market firewood trade.
Following a detailed investigation, the search warrant was executed with officers seizing a white Nissan tipper truck and mobile phone. The investigation is ongoing.
Conservation Regulation Victoria reported the case was part of its ongoing enforcement efforts targeting firewood theft by organised, black market operators under Taskforce Ironbark.
CRV said ironbark trees provided critical habitat for some of Victoria's most threatened species, such as the swift parrot.
Taskforce Ironbark manager Brady Childs urged community members to report suspicious firewood activity.
"This investigation demonstrates the reach and effectiveness of Taskforce Ironbark in tackling organised firewood crime across the state," Mr Childs said. "We're committed to protecting Victoria's parks and forests and holding black market firewood operators accountable for the damage they do to our environment - no matter how far they try to run."
