Medieval adventures at Chairo

Year seven and eight students at Chairo Christian School recently completed a medieval history unit with an exciting battle and lavish feast, with students dressed in character for both events.
The battle saw kingdoms waging war against each other armed with swords and shields, and flour bombs and tennis balls launched with ballistas.

Archers shot their arrows at the castle wall, while pumpkins and cantaloupes were launched high into the air from a full-sized trebuchet! It was pleasing to see every royal, noble, knight, beggar, jester and cleric participate with great enthusiasm and display their battle skills to protect their kingdom and fight for victory.

Two weeks after the battle, students, staff, volunteers and invited guests enjoyed a feast in the gym, which had been transformed into a wonderful banquet hall.

Student work was on display and the entertainment included celtic music, dancing and games
Studies of medieval society were also enhanced earlier in the term by history reproduction group History Up Close, who taught the students medieval games, songs and crafts, and all about medieval costumes and armoury.
