Illustrator Marc McBride took students on an artistic journey as part of literacy day activities at Longwarry Primary School on Tuesday.

Students from Labertouche and Neerim District Rural primary schools joined Longwarry students in taking part in numerous activities with an artistic flavour.

Marc McBride has illustrated more than 50 book covers and countless magazines, as well as producing artwork for advertising campaigns.

He has a solid design background in both advertising and film, and won the West Australian Film and Television award for best art director.

Marc has had work exhibited with the New York Society of Illustrators and is best known for his illustrations in the Deltora Quest series, written by Emily Rodda.

Students helped Marc to character design a dragon using an airbrush technique with various coloured paints.

Two other authors were also present on the day, with students also reading a number of picture books, including Snail and Turtle are Friends, before recreating some of the characters for themselves.

Students had also dressed as their favourite book characters for the occasion.

Longwarry Primary School students Natarllia Veitch, Talise Berryman, Lucas Earl and Aiden Bartlett, joined by Neerim District Rural School student Kelton McKissack-Broad for literacy day activities.
