Young United look to future as season ends

Gippsland United's senior men finished their season with a 3-1 defeat to Berwick City SC at Baxter Park on Saturday, while the reserves went down 2-0.
Berwick arrived knowing a victory would secure promotion to State League 1, and the visitors ultimately achieved their goal in front of a bumper crowd.
United dominated possession for much of the contest but were unable to turn that advantage into enough scoring opportunities.
Berwick, by contrast, were clinical in front of goal, and that proved the difference.
After Berwick opened up a two-goal lead, Bayden Heusmann pulled one back for United, putting pressure on the visitors. Berwick held their nerve, however, and secured a 3-1 victory.
At the final whistle, the Berwick coach was complimentary of United's young squad, telling the players "your boys didn't make it easy for us."
Gippsland United board member Michael Colantuono said the club was proud of the way the season had finished, despite the results.
"It was a bumper final day and probably the biggest crowd we've ever had at Baxter Park. The place was absolutely packed."
The result brought the curtain down on a season in which United appointed Dean Fak to stabilise the senior team.
Fak guided the side to a top-half finish, achieving the club's aim for the season.
With an average age of just 22, United's senior squad has plenty of potential, and the club will now look to build on this year's achievements, strengthen the depth of its teams and continue working towards promotion back to State League 1.
Boys Youth State League
Gippsland United hosted Goulburn Valley Suns, who travelled from Shepparton, in the second last round of the Boys Youth State League.
Under 18s
The under 18s were given a bye, as Goulburn Valley Suns do not field an under 18 team.
Under 16s
The under 16s went down 6-4, with Hadi Hussaini scoring twice and Clay McCann-Diston and Harrison Ritchie also finding the net.
Under 15s
The under 15s secured a 3-1 victory, thanks to a double from Max Wookey and a goal from Blake Breheny.
The under 14s recorded an impressive 6-0 win, with Jayden Ryan leading the way with a hat-trick. Yen Ruey added two goals, while Ryder McGregor also found the net.
Under 13s
The under 13s secured a 4-1 victory, with Tayt Talerico scoring a hat-trick and Cruz Pavich also getting on the scoresheet.
The Youth State League sides will now prepare for their final round this weekend, when Gippsland United takes on Kingston City.
In the Pre-Boys Youth State League, United's under 12 boys fell 3-1 to Langwarrin, with Mason Mallia scoring Gippsland's goal.

Under 10 boys
In what has become the most hotly contested under 10s football in recent history, the games between Gippsland and Hampton Park this year have all turned out to be classics.
As with previous meetings between these teams, this game did not disappoint in the goal department.
Alfie Hunt got things underway early for Gippsland after a perfectly weighted pass from Harvey Kerrigan.
Sasha Wedrowicz showed a wonderful piece of individual brilliance to put the team back in front, after Hampton had equalised.
Alfie then added a second to his impressive goal tally for the season, after a complete resurgence has seen him fire goals in just for fun during the second half of the season.
Hampton finished the half on a high note getting one back to go into the half 3-2 down.
The second half was one of positives and negatives for both teams - in what was a brilliant game on the park, it was disappointing to see some unsportsmanlike behaviour from the sidelines.
However, the boys playing didn't buy into the antics and let their football do the talking.
Hampton scored early to level things up, before yet another trademark Deakin O'Dea freekick from well outside the box, put Gippsland ahead once again.
Things then just seemed to click into gear for Hampton and they scored three unanswered goals to take the win and the bragging rights.

In their last game of the season, and the decider for the grand final, Gippsland played a highly anticipated match against Mount Eliza at Baxter Park in Warragul.
The girls had a deluge of supporters to cheer them on, including the under 13 girl,s who ran onto the pitch with them and joined in on their warm-up.
In what has been a brilliant season for the under 15s and their coach Paul Goodwin, the girls were unable to bring home the win on Sunday, being defeated by Mount Eliza 2-0.
Regardless of this score, the team has finished the season proudly in second place.
