Youngest Hawks win first game in four years

The final whistle signalled celebrations for Drouin's youngest netball team on Sunday.
It's been a tough few years for this young and developing side, but all that was forgotten when the Hawks' 13 and under team won their first game in four years against local rivals Warragul in Gippsland League.
The exciting game saw plenty of talent on display across the Hawks and Gulls sides and followed a drawn result between the two earlier in the season.
Drouin's 23-19 win set the tone for the day, with Drouin winning five of the six netball games.
A grade: Drouin 48 defeated Warragul 33
It was a great feeling to have a full A grade team step out onto court.
The Hawks worked hard on game plays and team work at training, and it paid off on court. The team adjusted well whenever Warragul tried to step it up.
Brilliant shooting from Stacie Gardner at 87 per cent, scoring 37 out of the 48 goals. Not to be outdone by Kylie Proctor who still managed to put in some super long bombs. Her feeding to Stacie was also great.
Further down the court, Ruby Pratt was doing all sorts of magic tricks on court, including some acrobatics amongst her usual determination and grit.
Sara Russell had a hand in and arms up over the ball to create many turnovers.
With a winning game like that, all Hawks players put in a fantastic effort, from one end of the court to another.
Awards: Ruby Pratt and Sara Russell.
B grade: Drouin 35 defeated Warragul 33
The Hawks had big smiles when the siren sounded.
It was touch and go throughout the game. Some changes had to made early for illness in the goal ring, but Chelsea De Riter already had the goals flowing.
Ruby Pritchett was working hard in midcourt with Kate Butler and Georgia Henderson, slowing the ball down to the defence end and hitting the ring in the attacking end.
Tess Mapleson shot an impressive 18 goals and Chelsea shot 12, with both rebounding strongly. Ali McArthur and Maddy Caddy worked really hard in the defensive end, pushing through any obstacles in their way.
Great work at training has got this team back on track to keep building each week. Celebrating a great win Hawks.
Awards: Ruby Pritchett and Chelsea De Riter.
C grade: Drouin 25 lost to Warragul 26
It was a hard game with all the pressure of the rivalry round.
Drouin defenders got the jump of the Gulls, working hard to shut down the ball before it got into the ring. Grace Henderson, Darcy Appleby, Jess Murray and Sarah Sharpe got hands over the ball, intercepts and rebounds all game and made it hard for the Warragul attackers.
Moving down the court, these same defenders worked hard to get it to the Hawks attackers to capitalise on. Despite pulling away to a small lead, it came down to a shot-for-shot situation and waiting for the siren.
Unfortunately, the siren blew and Drouin had to give up the potential clean sweep of the day.
It was a brilliant game to watch, with some great passages of play.
Awards: Darcy Appleby, Sarah Sharpe and Jess Murray.
17 and under: Drouin 45 defeated Warragul 16
In a game the Hawks had to win to keep their finals hopes alive, the girls got the four points and showed what they are capable of when they put their foot down.
Many of these 17s are players who have now started playing or benching for the senior teams. However, winning and performing well in their junior grade is the sweetest reward.
It was a full team effort to keep the Warragul attackers under control. The Hawks defenders of Kelly Mills, Alanah Jagoe and Rachel Turner shut down their end of the court, whilst letting the midcourters both go out hunting for intercepts.
Tilly Carroll didn't miss a beat for the game, quickly capitalising on any chance and feeding the goalers like she's done it her whole life.
In the ring, Tess Mapleson and Kaylee Nalder also didn't miss a beat, and were ready for the short fast feed or the long shots into them.
Awards: Tilly Carroll and Tess Mapleson.
15 and under: Drouin 32 defeated Warragul 24
This was a game the Hawks had been waiting for after drawing with Warragul last time. This time, they wanted to turn the draw into four points.
Each quarter saw the girls increase the lead and work harder on court, resulting in many held ball calls from the full court pressure.
In attack, Sienna Arbon and Fiona Nalder were quite the dynamic shooting duo, whilst Jamieson Thomas and Bella Tangipo fed them and worked hard on the angles for the ring.
In defence, all players fought hard to every ball, rebounded and chased up every lose ball they could.
The hard work leading up to this game is what the result can be attributed to.
Awards: Jamieson Thomas, Bella Tangipo and Sienna Arbon.
13 and under: Drouin 23 defeated Warragul 19
The youngest Hawks celebrated their first win for the season against Warragul, and set the day up for everyone at the courts.
The whole team played amazing and backed each other. The full court defensive pressure was impressive and won many scoring opportunities.
Fiona Nalder worked hard in goal attack all game, creating lots of movement and scoring well.
Through the middle, Sophie Cassidy and Emmerson Kneebone combined well and created lots of angles and hard drives to the circle.
