While many headed to the MCG on Saturday to see the stars of the now, the stars of the future also were on display in the AFL National Futures Boys before the big game - including some locals.
Warragul Industrials young gun Cody Templeton was front and centre for the match, which saw two under 17s teams named after retired champions Sam Docherty and Travis Boak go head to head.
The match featured many of the country's most talented under 17 boys footballers, with all players born in 2008 and eligible for the 2026 AFL draft.
Geelong Falcons midfielder Noah Williams claimed the best on ground medal as Team Boak's best after picking up 17 disposals and seven inside-50s.
Carlton father-son prospect Cody Walker was dominant for Team Docherty, despite his side falling to defeat. He finished with 25 disposals, seven clearances and six inside-50s, winning his footy both on the inside and in close.
Templeton, who played for Team Docherty, was one of five Gippsland Power players to feature, along with Marlon Neocleous (Traralgon), Wil Malady (Bairnsdale), Xavier Ladbrook (Nar Nar Goon) and Clancy Snell (Mirboo North).
The Gippsland names were up in lights too as Malady booted five goals and Neocleous three to lift Team Boak to a 13-point victory.
