Seeds, clay and community spirit

The Tetoora Road Community Centre was alive with activity recently as locals gathered for the 13th annual community day, enjoying a relaxed mix of hands on workshops, shared food and outdoor fun.

The morning began with a community planting session, where volunteers helped put 30 new plants into four areas around the centre — all staked and guarded to protect them from the rabbits, wombats and the winds.

The plants were generously supplied by Mt Worth and District Landcare Group and committee chair Ann Bullen.

The day also included an engaging 45 minute seed talk from Merrin Butler, formerly of the West Gippsland Seed Bank. With gum leaves, wattles and blackwood seeds spread across the table, participants enjoyed learning about native seeds and their role in local ecosystems.

Lunch was a cosy community spread of soups, hot dogs, party pies and sausage rolls.

In the afternoon, children moved between clay making and basketball, crafting clay creations with Yumi Taylor before going to the playground and then onto the courts with instructors Felicity and Jon Fair.

The day wrapped up with smiles, tired kids, and thanks to everyone who helped make the event another celebration of Tetoora Road's community spirit.
