Baw Baw police are urging locals to report suspicious activity to help catch offenders and prevent crime.
In recent months, arrests have been made as a direct result of community tip-offs. However, several witnesses have indicated they avoided calling police for suspicious activity as they didn't want to waste police time.
Others have turned to social media posts to report crimes.
However, local police reminded community members that a simple call and quick action could result in arrest or prevent crime altogether.
Vehicle registration, even if partial, and descriptions of people are particularly helpful. However, police said witnesses should not risk their safety in order to obtain this information.
Locking vehicles and houses - including back doors - is another key message from Baw Baw police to prevent crime.
To report a crime or suspicious activity, call 000 in an emergency or the police assistance line on 131 444 for non-urgent issues or to report a crime that has already occurred.
If you wish to remain anonymous, make your report to Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000 or online at crimestoppersvic.com.au
