No road closures are expected when Drouin streetscape works begin next week.
Baw Baw Shire community infrastructure acting director James Robinson said the $1.1 million works scheduled to begin next week in Commercial Place were subject to weather and traffic management approvals.
However, whilst traffic management would be in place, he expected no road closures at this stage.
"The contractor will be contacting the surrounding businesses prior to beginning works," Mr Robinson said. "Any temporary disruptions will be communicated to businesses with advance warning to minimise impact."
Civil construction contractor Accomplished Plumbing Services was appointed to deliver the project on behalf of council at a September meeting.
When approving the works, west ward councillor Ben Lucas said the project would beautify, improve safety and boost character of the "forgotten and neglected back side of the main drag".
Cr Lucas said it was an historic project leftover from the previous councillor group but the facelift would be a welcome addition to Drouin.
The streetscaping works will target Commercial Pl - between Hope St and Bank Pl - and extend into three adjoining laneways that link to Princes Way.
Expected to be completed by mid-2026, construction will include: two new raised pedestrian crossings; renewal of Commercial Pl footpath; surface refresh of three laneways; new street furniture and bins; new linemarking, kerb and channel; improved public lighting; stormwater drainage upgrades; new trees and garden beds; and, tree removal.
Additionally, a portion of Commercial Pl will be returned to one-way traffic to improve safety of the narrow roadway and better accommodate heavy vehicle traffic.
The project will be funded via council's capital works program and $600,000 earmarked from the Development Contributions Plan.
