Driest winter in 19 years

West Gippsland has recorded its driest winter period in 19 years.
But with total rainfall for the year almost 260mm below average, it was no surprise.
With June and August rainfall only half the 115-year averages for both months, the total winter rainfall across the three year period was well below average.
Every month except July has recorded below average rainfall, with July's 97.4mm being slightly up on the 91.6mm average.
Winter finished with 57.6mm recorded in August, down on the 103.6mm average.It took the total for the winter period to 198.8mm, compared to the season's average of 283.1mm.
The winter total was just below the three month total for June, July and August last year of 203.2mm.
But, it was the driest recorded winter since 123.5mm was recorded in 2006.
Rain was recorded on 13 days in August, with the most significant dumping being 15.8mm on August 27.
So far this year, 378.6mm of rain has been recorded - significantly below the total average for January to August 0f 636.7mm.
