Colourful display at Poowong

Poowong Garden Club held a very successful flower and photo show over the Melbourne Cup long weekend.
Many people from far and wide attended, including the opportunity to stroll around gardens that were open to the public on the Saturday. The sun shone beautifully for the garden walk and the Poowong public hall had an abundance of stunning floral displays.
Decorated bollards were this year's theme and decorated the foyer of the hall and in the main street. Bollards were made by members of the Poowong Garden Club.
Christine Robinson won the Julie Cantwell encouragement memorial award, the Dorothy Slachter memorial award was won by Carolyn. Both Julie and Dorothy were club members who recently died, and the annual Neil Harvey Memorial award was won by Maureen Benson.
Other section winners were: cut flowers - Janice Elliott; trees and shrubs - Maureen Benson; pot plants - Pam Henry; floral art - Linda Harvey; oriental influence - Sue Thompson. In the photography sections winners were: colors in the sky - first Danni Heron, second Janice Elliott; landscape - first Danni Heron, second Janice Elliott; flowers - first Danni Heron, second Danni Heron; animals - first Jenny McCormack, second Carolyn.
Children's section: saucer of fresh flowers - first Tess Drew, second Ella Maher; decorated boot - first Remedy Gray, second Holly Drew; Lego creation - first Ella Maher, second Rae Maher; coloured drawing - first Ella Maher, second Ella Maher.
