A new library as part of a $30 million community precinct development in Warragul is a step closer to reality with another $1 million State Government funding announcement.
The Baw Baw Culture and Connection Precinct was one of four projects to receive $1 million each in the government's Living Libraries Infrastructure Program.
Local Government Minister Melissa Horne announced the funding yesterday.
"Our public libraries make a real difference across the state, providing access to a reliable source of knowledge, creating opportunities for social connection and entertainment for local communities.
"Investing in libraries helps build a lasting legacy by ensuring all Victorians no matter where they live can learn and stay connected," Ms Horne said.
The new funding is additional to a previous $3.5 million State Government commitment announced in January.
Baw Baw Shire last year committed to the landmark development that will feature a new library as its flagship attraction.
Council has pledged $10 million to the major development but the project is totally dependent on $10 million each from state and federal governments.
The precinct will be developed on underutilised council owned land surrounding the West Gippsland Arts Centre and Civic Park.
