The Thomson Bridge campground near Walhalla remains closed until September following incidents of vandalism that have left infrastructure damaged and the site requiring rehabilitation.

Authorities reported fire pits need to be replaced and sections of grass re-sown before the campground could reopen.
Despite the closure, a group recently gained access to the campground by driving a Ford Falcon ute underneath a locked entry chain. A number of other four-wheel-drive vehicle, which were too tall to pass under the barrier, were left parked outside.
Police said the entrance was secured and clearly inaccessible to vehicle traffic.
Rawson Police attended and issued warnings to offenders. The matter will be referred to DEECA to determine if further enforcement action would be taken.
Authorities reminded visitors that campground closures were put in place for public safety and environmental protection, and should be respected until officially lifted.
