Outdoor pool opens this week
Opening hours of the outdoor pool at the Warragul Leisure Centre will look slightly different from this week.
Warragul pool users provided feedback to Baw Baw Shire Council, calling for access to the pool earlier in the season.
Based on user feedback, the revised opening hours from October to April are:
Monday to Friday between 6am and 9am and 3:45pm to 7pm. Saturdays from 6am to 4pm and Sundays from 10am to 2pm.
The revised hours will be in place until April10, 2027 and data will be collected during the period to monitor visitation.
In addition to the outdoor pool at Warragul, council operates seasonal outdoor swimming pools in Drouin, Neerim South, Thorpdale and Trafalgar, and the indoor pool at Rawson, which open to the community from December 1 to March 31 annually.
The pools are managed by the YMCA on behalf of council. Outdoor pools open when the temperature is forecast for 25 degrees or more, except Rawson and Warragul pools and early morning swims, which are not weather dependent.
Baw Baw Shire mayor Kate Wilson said while the weather was currently still cool, it wouldn't be be long until community members were back enjoying the outdoor pools and making a splash this summer.
"We're really lucky to have so many amazing pools in Baw Baw Shire. The activation of our outdoor pools is a great indicator of the season, and we can't wait to see them open again soon," Cr Wilson said.
"A trip to the pool is a great, inexpensive day out for the family and a good chance to connect with friends and family in a relaxed setting. I hope we see some big crowds at our facilities this summer."
