Night operation a success

Police believe a targeted operation across Warragul and Drouin has disrupted offenders moving through West Gippsland's growing commercial centres.
Operation Nightjar, run over three nights, focused on people moving through the region's central business districts and surrounding areas.
Officers checked 439 vehicles, intercepted 36, and made 56 public contacts, resulting in nine offenders being processed for a range of alleged offences including breaching bail and possessing drugs.
Police described the operation as a success and said it would be used again to saturate areas experiencing spikes in crime, particularly around local businesses.
They said the area's position on the cusp of Baw Baw and Latrobe meant a mix of locals and people from outside the region were coming into town to offend, with those intercepted including drivers from suburbs as far away as Rosedale and St Kilda.
The highly visible checks were part of a broader push to reduce crime in and around Warragul and Drouin as the population continues to grow and commercial areas become busier.
