Band brings it home

The West Gippsland Concert Band has achieved an outstanding result at the 2026 Latrobe Eisteddfod, earning second place in the Open Ensemble section and receiving glowing praise from the adjudicator.
The ensemble impressed both audience and adjudicator with a varied and polished program, highlighted by a powerful performance of Nessun Dorma featuring guest vocalist Trevor Mills.
The adjudicator praised the band's musicality and the addition of Mr Mills' voice to the program, describing the performance as a standout feature of the set.However, it was the band's closing work, Around the World by composer Sally Greenaway, that drew the highest praise.In written comments following the performance, the adjudicator described the piece as "the highlight of the set".
"The band felt the groove of the rhythms naturally, and you have a great percussion section to support and scaffold you," the adjudicator wrote.
"This lifted the sounds to make a very strong finish."
