School plans for 150th anniversary

The countdown is on with only five weeks until Lardner Primary School's 150 year celebration on October 17.
Planning for the event began in April with organisers gathering extracts from past local newspapers as well as old school photos.
Some of the newspaper articles are as far back as 1925 being the opening of the new Lardner Hall (the one that exists today), 1936 being the 50 year celebration of the primary school, 1966 being 80 years of the hall and 1967 being the school's centenary.
Margaret McDonald (past parent of Vanessa and Timothy) has been working around the clock, contacting former students and collecting school artifacts from the early years 1800s and 1900s.
A mass of history has been collected and will be available for viewing on the day, including almost 200 photographs on display around the hall.
A row of tables will have display folders with school attendance rolls from 1916 to 1986 as well as many other articles. Other display folders include the Lardner Track history, the hall history, history of Hallora School, Warragul West School and Tetoora Road School and a few more folders in making.
Photos of the school and its community are a little scarce before 1958 so community members who may have photographs or knows of someone with photos from this era are asked to contact the school (5626 1303) or take them along on the day.
The reunion day will include years five and six students leading interactive tours on the school grounds from 11am to 12:30pm, running for 15 to 20 minutes each.
The celebrations also include revealing the 52-year-old time capsule and reburying it with current artifacts.
The celebration program will run from 11am to 4pm and includes:
11am - 12:30pm - school open tours
11:30am - 4pm - hall open with displays and artifacts on show as well as many interactive activities around the hall
11:45am - 1pm and 2pm - 3:30pm - complimentary tea, coffee, Milo and scones
Noon – 2:30pm - Lions Club food and drinks available for purchase
1:15pm - 2pm - speeches, time capsule, photos
11:45am - 4pm - souvenir booth at the hall to collect and order from
Current parents will assist with parking for the first two hours at the hall as well as at the school. The school oval will be open for additional parking.

Orders received before September 30 will be available for collection on the day. Alternatively, orders can be made at the Dust and Ridge souvenir booth at the hall for delivery after the event.
