Foundation students at Nilma Primary School were visited by the Responsible Pet Ownership Education Program yesterday.
Listening to trained pet educator, Ruth, watching safety videos and role playing different situations they might find themselves in, the students learnt how to safely approach a dog, what to do if they found an angry dog, and when they should leave a dog alone.
The program also taught students the importance of caring for their pets and how to help keep native animals safe when you have a dog or a cat.
As part of the visit, the students got to meet Flayme the dog. Using their new skills, the students were able to safely approach Flayme and give him a pat.
