Blue Wrens bring Mother's Day magic to school

The spirit of Mother's Day was brought to life at Labertouche Primary School thanks to a special visit from the Labertouche CWA, known as the Blue Wrens.
The local community group spent the day helping students craft heartfelt gifts for their mums, creating an atmosphere filled with joy, creativity, and plenty of plum jam.
The Blue Wrens, known for their dedication to community and tradition, guided students through a trio of gift-making activities.
Under their expert supervision, children had the opportunity to see the process of creating homemade plum jam, with each batch simmering sweetly in the school's kitchen. Once the jam was set, the creative flair continued as students designed their own labels for the jars. With colourful drawings, heartfelt messages, and a few sparkles here and there, the jars were transformed into personalised treasures ready to be gifted with pride.
To complete the surprise, each child also made a paper tulip, folding vibrant petals with care and attaching a thoughtful note inside. The result - a truly special collection of handmade gifts, created with love.
Principal Christie Bransgrove praised the initiative. "This day will now become a highlight for our students. It's more than just making gifts — it's about community, tradition, and showing love in simple, meaningful ways. Mother's Day will be extra sweet this year."
