The Warragul Warriors women showed the duality of basketball on the weekend, following up a perfect performance against Wonthaggi with a poor one against Morwell.
The Warriors were in rare form on Friday night against the Coasters, keeping ahead early before pulling away in the second half to register a powerful 89-49 win.
Up against the unbeaten Morwell Magic the next day it was a different story, however, Warragul well off the pace all evening in a limp 47-76 defeat.
Home grown talent and international star Sophie Taylor was the centre of attention in the Wonthaggi game, putting up a stunning 38-point performance.
Recruit Kailey Neave scored 24 points as the Warriors did most of the damage in the second half, turning a six-point lead at half time into a 40-point win by the final buzzer.
If Warriors coach Tony Marcucci was delighted by that performance, he was more concerned the following day as the Warriors were swept aside by the ladder-leading Magic.
Warragul struggled to work past the Morwell defence early, scoring just five points in the first quarter to trail by 18 at quarter time.
Try as they might the Warriors just couldn't get rolling, showing signs of tiredness in the second half as they were unable to replicate their comeback win over Maffra the week prior.
Without the influence of experienced hands Alysha Marcucci, Beth Quadara and Taylah Giliam on the floor the Warriors missed the leadership on the floor as they fell away in the third quarter.
Taylor (18 points) and Neave (17) were again the major scorers as no other Warragul player scored more than three.
The loss means the Warriors have lost the second game of both their double-headers, indicating the fatigue that can come with playing games on back-to-back days.
It's also the second week in which they have found themselves down by double digits at quarter time.
Warriors coach Tony Marcucci said the first game was "perfect" and the second was "the opposite."
"Everything clicked (against Wonthaggi), everyone contributed," he said.
On Saturday's loss, Marcucci credited the defence from the visitors for putting his team off the pace.
"A lot of credit goes to them, their defence was really good. We just didn't take good shots."
With Marcucci and Quadara due back this week, Marcucci remained "quietly confidence" the Warriors would bounce back.
"We'll turn it around pretty quickly I reckon," he said.
Warragul face Korumburra at the Korumburra Indoor Recreation Centre this Saturday at 6pm.
