Gippsland United's tough run of form in the men's competition continued on Saturday with defeat at home at the hands of Bayside Argonauts 2-0.
Two second half goals brought the home side undone as they were outplayed by a team currently one point off top spot in State League 1.
A more competitive first half effort saw the two teams head into the sheds level at 0-0; United still in with a chance to cause a significant upset after two consecutive defeats.
It wasn't to be, however, with Bayside's Mitch Cooper finding the back of the net at the 61st minute to send his side ahead.
His job done, Cooper was subbed off at the 87th minute with his replacement Luke Menere finishing the job just minutes later, putting through the visitors' second goal and putting the result beyond doubt.
A few spot fires saw some yellow cards handed out. But, with United unable to hit the scoreboard, the result was a foregone conclusion.
The loss now sees them in 11th position on the table, two points ahead of bottom placed Brandon Park. United will now take a week off to recuperate before an away trip to second-placed Mornington.
United's reserves also suffered a 2-0 defeat to now sit eighth on their table.
In more positive news, the Gippsland United senior women's team secured their first win of the season with a massive 5-1 win over Croydon City.
Ange Knersh got the visitors off to a great start with the first goal of the game. However, Croydon City were able to level the scores not long after.
Despite that, United stood tall, putting together several quality plays to put their opposition to the sword.
Shanasai Iorangi helped herself to a hat-trick, while Sophie Jarvis chipped in with a goal of her own.
United's women will be back at home on Saturday at 7pm against Barton United.
