The Gippsland Strikers were back on home turf for a highly anticipated clash against La Trobe University.
With the last meeting ending in a dramatic 4-4 draw, another tight contest was expected — and was delivered.
The Strikers struck early through Matt Zurrer, who capitalised on a turnover and coolly finished after a sharp assist from Mark Robjant.
The home side controlled much of the game from there, creating wave after wave of attacking play but unable to convert chances into goals.
La Trobe stayed in the contest and, in a cruel twist, managed to equalise in the final minute of the match.
The 1-1 result was a tough pill to swallow, especially given the Strikers' dominant performance and unwavering effort.
Despite the draw, the team can hold their heads high, with their work rate and determination on full display.
It was also a special day for two Strikers players celebrating major milestones:
Felicity Johnson reached her 100th senior game for the club — a testament to her long-standing commitment and impact.
Hannah Van Bruegel played her 50th senior game, marking a significant achievement in her growing career.
Congratulations to both players on their incredible contributions to the Strikers.

Frankston came out strong, managing to slow the Strikers' momentum early in the first half. However, with the support of a spirited home crowd, the Strikers found their rhythm and surged ahead to a 4–0 lead by half time.
After the break the game opened up and the Strikers took full control. Their sharp passing and excellent communication on the pitch made all the difference, as they dominated the second half and continued to build on their lead.
The match ended with a commanding 16–0 victory for the Strikers.
The club offered a thank you to the Strikers community who came to support the team, saying their encouragement made a real difference.

After the negative two degree start in the morning it was great to have no ice on the windscreens going to hockey.
What a lovely night. Sky was clear no rain no snow. There was plenty of backspin on the ball at one stage.
It was soon 1-0. After that it wasn't until about five minutes to go and the Strikers had a dribble and lo and behold 2-0.
What a win great team effort across the board.
