Serong secures third medal

Warragul product and AFL superstar Caleb Serong carved out his own piece of history last week as he won his third consecutive best and fairest at the Fremantle Dockers.
Known as the Doig Medal, Serong became just the second Docker to win the top prize for three years in a row, the other being club legend Matthew Pavlich.
Serong was sitting in second place heading into the final few rounds behind fellow midfielder Andy Brayshaw before making his way to first place by the end of the count on 213 votes, ahead of Brayshaw's 195.
The award caps off a brilliant season for the former Warragul Gull as he also secured his third All Australian and his fourth Glendinning-Allan Medal while also setting new club records for the most inside 50s in a season and most clearances.
Serong now sits equal second for most Doig Medals alongside Nat Fyfe and Peter Bell, behind Pavlich's total of six.
The Serong family has been in the news for other reasons after Jai Serong requested a trade from Hawthorn to Sydney.
The Hawk, who was drafted in 2021, has played 10 AFL games while starring in the VFL, where he recently won his second consecutive best and fairest for Box Hill and made the VFL team of the year.
Unlike his brother, Jai plays primarily as a key defender and will be hoping for more opportunity at the top level should his attempted move be successful.
