Warriors back with a bang

The Warragul Warriors kicked off the new Country Basketball League season in style on Saturday night securing wins in both the women's and men's matches.
With both sides slated to play Moe Meteors at the Warragul Leisure Centre in their round one match-ups, both Warriors teams were on song as the women won 66-57 and the men 99-93.
It was a perfect way for the Warriors women to open their championship defence, breaking away late against last year's runners-up to turn a one-point lead at three quarter time into a nine-point win.
Before that stage the game was a topsy turvy one after the Meteors broke away for an early lead before the Warriors dragged the contest back onto equal footing.
Recruit Kailey Neave led the way in terms of scoring, putting up 27 points - including three three-pointers, as Alysha Marcucci (16 points) and Beth Quadara (10 points) also featured.
It will be a new-look team this season after the departures of last year's top scorers Samantha Labros and Skye Rees.
The Warriors will travel to face Pakenham this Saturday at 6pm before facing Southern Peninsula at home the next day at 12pm.
Warragul's men's side also used their own bit of fourth quarter magic in their game, overcoming a four-point deficit at three quarter time to register a six-point victory.
After leading by six at the main break the Warriors were made to pay in the third quarter as Moe charged to the lead at the last break.
It wasn't to last, however, as Warragul put together a mightily impressive display in offence, driving home 38 points in the fourth quarter to walk away winners.
Returning players Riley Morehu and Murray Myers both scored 26 points to lead from the front when their side needed it the most.
The Warriors men will be out for atonement this year, having been brought undone in last year's grand final.
They'll get their first chance at revenge this Saturday when they face last year's champions Pakenham on Saturday.
