Local swimmers star for Victoria

It's been a big week for the 10 Gippsland swimmers who were a part of Team Victoria at the School Sports Australia Championships in Brisbane recently.
The swimmers competed in a range of individual events in the morning, coming back in the afternoon for finals.
All the swimmers made finals with some outstanding results, including a new Vic Country and School Sports Australia record for Archie Smyth in the 50m backstroke. Several swimmers swam together in the relays and have come home with medals.

The swimmers had a fantastic time racing as a team in the relays against others who are usually their competitors. They enjoyed the racing against the people from other states who they compete against at National Age Championships.

Tara Jensen (Warragul) 7th 50m butterfly, 6th freestyle relay, 8th 200m IM, 7th 50m freestyle, 5th mixed medley relay, 8th 50m backstroke, 7th 100m freestyle, 5th medley relay.
Phoebe Balcombe (Traralgon): 5th 100m freestyle, 9th 100m breaststroke, 9th 50m butterfly, 6th medley relay, 7th 4x100m freestyle relay, 5th 4x50m free relay.
Zayden Burton (Traralgon) 6th 100m backstroke, 10th 100m butterfly, 9th 4x50m freestyle relay, 7th handicap relay.
Claudia Croatto (South Gippsland Bass) 6th 100m breaststroke, 7th 50m breaststroke, 5th 200m breaststroke, 3rd 10x50m mixed free relay, 5th 4x50m free relay, 8th medley relay.
Mackenzie Gibbs (Sale) 10th 100m butterfly, 8th 200m freestyle, 8th freestyle relay, 5th medley relay.
Xavier Gray (Sale) 5th 50m butterfly, 9th 100m backstroke, 9th 100m butterfly, 3rd freestyle relay, 3rd medley relay, 2nd mixed freestyle relay.
Levi Jarrett (South Gippsland Bass) MC 7th 100m breaststroke, 9th 50m butterfly, 9th 200m freestyle, 7th 100m backstroke, 9th 50m breaststroke, 9th 100m freestyle, 9th 50m backstroke, 7th medley relay, 8th freestyle relay.
Miah Roberts (South Gippsland Bass) 7th 50m backstroke, 6th 200m backstroke, 4th 100m backstroke, 8th medley relay, 7th 4x100m freestyle relay.
Kody Said (Traralgon) 7th 100m breaststroke, 7th 200m freestyle, 6th 400m IM, 4th 1500m freestyle, 5th 800m freestyle, 10th freestyle relay.
Archie Smyth (South Gippsland Bass) 1st 50m backstroke, 2nd 200m backstroke, 2nd 100m backstroke, 8th 50m butterfly, 8th 50m freestyle, 5th 100m freestyle, 3rd freestyle relay, 3rd medley relay.
The swimmers have a short week to recover before heading to Bendigo for the Country Championships this weekend.
A total of 234 swimmers from across Gippsland will head to the event, which attracts all the best swimmers from regional swimming who have some a qualifying time, with 616 swimmers attending the event.
Gippsland will be represented by the East Gippsland Water Dragons, Moe, Sale, South Gippsland Bass, Traralgon and Warragul swim clubs at the event.
The swimmers will compete in a number of individual events in distances ranging from 50m to 400m as well as relays. Competition is fierce between the Gippsland clubs, several of which aim to finish in the top 10 overall places.
The two-day event is held at Gurri Wanyarra Wellbeing Centre Bendigo and is keenly watched by family and friends.
