Hawks win vital A grade clash

Drouin won the A grade contest but Traralgon finished the day with five wins on Saturday.
A grade: Drouin 52 defeated Traralgon 43
This was a tightly contested four quarter effort. However, the Hawks were able to maintain a lead and add four points to the leaderboard.
The game was back and forth and, at times, it was hard to gain momentum.
Lucy McKellar had a great game out at goal defence, combining well with April Bethune. In the midcourt, Christie Edwards and Ella Henderson created great angles and fed well.
It was a physical game of netball and the Hawks were happy to walk away winners.

B grade: Drouin 49 lost to Traralgon 64
After a slow start, Drouin did a fantastic job to claw back into the game - there just wasn't enough time.
It was a tough, physical game with some fantastic passages of play from both sides.
Matilda Carroll demonstrated her versatility, being rotated through wing defence, centre and wing attack. In attack, she was speedy and quick, driving hard onto the ring to feed the goalers. In defence, she applied lots of pressure on the opposition and run.
Fiona Nalder, from the under 17s side, played an impressive game in wing attack. She used her agility and athleticism to pull in some difficult passes and evade her defender.

C grade: Drouin 36 lost to Traralgon 40
This was a tough and tightly contested game across all four quarters.
The Hawks had it but unfortunately some errors crept into their game late in the fourth quarter. Traralgon was able to capitalise on these errors.
The Hawks will need to have more control on the ball in attack if they are to push the top teams.
A highlight was goal keeper Ali McArthur keeping the Hawks in the contest with her pressure, talk and turnovers. Cleo Traumanis continued to be a strong and reliable target for the side in goal shooter.

17 and under: Drouin 32 lost to Traralgon 67
This was a challenging game against the top side but the Hawks will take many positives from it.
Although not reflected in the final score, the girls challenged Traralgon throughout the game and will be motivated to improve ahead of their next meeting.
Livia Pask had a strong and steady game in goal keeper, taking on feedback each quarter from the coaches and implementing them into her game. Additionally, Leilani Lightowler was running and working relentlessly in centre. She also created some fantastic turnovers when rotating into goal defence.

15 and under: Drouin 22 lost to Traralgon 59
The Hawks had a tough game against the top side in Traralgon.
The Hawks started well, going goal-for-goal. However, once Traralgon found their groove and their pressure really hitched up, the Hawks couldn't keep up.
The girls responded well in the second quarter and their work rate went another level, scoring from any opportunity they could.
Amber Hammond played a steady and strong game in goal attack, adding hard defensive work for the team. Annie Stephens was also great in goal defence in just her second game of the year after an ankle injury.

13 and under: Drouin 13 lost to Traralgon 39
It was another tough week for the Hawks, with a few key players unavailable. However, the team showed resilience and adaptability.
Pia Pask was outstanding in both attack and defence, playing a pivotal role by not only holding off the opposition but also contributing to Drouin's scoring efforts.
Sophie Sever displayed fantastic determination in wing defence, consistently applying pressure and reading the play well. A special mention goes to Ellie Cassidy who stepped into the goal keeper for the first time; showing courage, composure and natural ability.
