Hawks and Gulls clash in Gippsland League rivalry
1 min read

Local rivals Warragul and Drouin will battle it out at Drouin on Sunday in round two of Gippsland League.

After missing an opportunity to open its account against Bairnsdale, Warragul will have added incentive to start well.

Drouin, outpowered by Wonthaggi a fortnight ago, will be hoping to get players back to bolster its side ahead of the always entertaining rivalry game.

Leongatha’s easy win over Traralgon sets up an enticing clash against rivals Wonthaggi, also on Sunday.  Wonthaggi sent a message to the rest of the competition with its fitness, skills and organisation at Easter, with Parrots president Mal Mackie suggesting the South Gippsland rivalry would be “on” when the two met at Leongatha.

Moe will face a big test on Saturday when they travel to take on reigning premier Maffra, who will be looking to respond following a loss to local rivals Sale.

Sale, coming off that victory, will look to continue its winning ways at Bairnsdale on Saturday.

Traralgon and Morwell have a week off to recoup from their respective losses before they play at Morwell.

This weekend’s games at ground of first named club:

Saturday: Bairnsdale v Sale, Maffra v Moe.

Sunday: Drouin v Warragul, Leongatha v Wonthaggi.
