Warragul netballers played in some epic encounters against Moe in round 17 action on Saturday.
A grade: Warragul 62 lost to Moe 65
It was always going to be an exciting game, as the top two sides facing off once again.
It was the Gulls that came out firing in the first quarter, cementing a 17-13 lead. Everything seemed to click from the start, with the defenders able to get a hand to plenty of the ball while the attacking end connected seamlessly.
However, when the rain came down heavily in the second half, the Gulls were just too slow to adjust their style of play. This allowed Moe to gain a substantial lead going into the last quarter.
The Gulls didn't give up, clawing their way back into the game and going down by just three goals.
Awards: Ella Rees, Renee Cook and Sienna Green.
B grade: Warragul 49 drew Moe 49
Warragul put together a strong performance against Moe, showing real determination and teamwork across the first three quarters.
Matching Moe goal-for-goal, they led by seven goals at the last break.
Unfortunately, the Gulls weren't able to withstand the intensity and pressure that Moe brought in the final quarter. They capitalised on a few of the Gulls' errors and finished strongly, resulting in the draw.
Whilst disappointing not to hold on after putting themselves in a winning position, there were plenty of positives to take away. The girls showed excellent ball movement, defensive pressure and patience in attack for much of the match.
Awards: Ella Gaul, Audrey Simpson and Mackenzie Minichiello.
C grade: Warragul 25 lost to Moe 47
The Gulls fought hard all game and kept pushing until the final whistle.
There are lots of positives to take away as they continue to build each week.
Awards: Ellie Beechey-Danvers, Dominique Jade, Charli Hendrikse and Bella Hefford.
17 and under: Warragul 33 lost to Moe 37
Drawing toward the end of the season, the Gulls continue to develop and they played a strong game.
Both defensive pressure and a determined attack kept the competition tight. A great display of teamwork.
Awards: Edie Flanagan, Brooke Cahill and Alisha Smith.
15 and under: Warragul 35 lost to Moe 37
This was always going to be a fight until the end, with a secure third place for the winner.
Warragul came out very determined and stayed with a strong Moe, going goal-for-goal. With extra defensive pressure all over the court whilst the rain pelted down for several minutes, the Gulls were able to get some turnovers and led at half-time.
Moe never gave up and fought back hard to even up the score, and eventually proved too strong on the day with a two-goal win.
Congratulations to Indi Olsson and Charli Hodge who both played their 50th club game.
Awards: Addy Moore, Milly Henry and Finlay Heenan.
13 and under: Warragul 4 lost to Moe 32
The rain held off for the girls to hit the court, and they certainly made the most of it with plenty of great play.
Ida Blackwood was again outstanding in wing defence. Her determination, positivity and kindness never go unnoticed.
Captain Bella Senini again provided strong direction on the court, showing her ability to read the play and lift those around her. In defence, Ella Carpenter's pressure was brilliant, with her two-handed rebounds always exciting to watch.
Despite being unwell, captain Evelyn Blackwood supported her team from the bench.
Awards: Bella Senini, Isa Blackwood, Ella Carpenter
