Great day as Hawks win five

Drouin netballers had a great day out against Maffra, winning five of the six games.
A grade: Drouin 62 defeated Maffra 18
The Hawks extended their winning streak, with a convincing win against Maffra.
The girls had a strong defensive game, with April Bethune and Lucy McKellar combining well in the circle, supported by Ella Henderson and Lainey Downie out front.
Down the attack end, it was hard to gain momentum at times due to the wet surface and the defensive efforts of Maffra.
It was a good week to implement systems and work on connections as Drouin gear up for their match up with Warragul on Sunday.
Awards: Reagan Joyce and April Bethune.
B grade: Drouin 60 defeated Maffra 29
The Hawks had a slow start against the Eagles, only leading by one at the first break.
However, once they found their rhythm in the second quarter, there was no looking back. Kaylee Nalder was a standout in goal attack, working hard to set up plays and apply pressure to force errors from the Eagles.
In defence, Leilani Lightowler had a brilliant game, picking up plenty of turnovers and driving the ball with confidence.
Sophie Cassidy made her B grade debut from the 15s and fitted in seamlessly. Alice McKellar backed up her debut last week with another strong showing in defence.
Matilda Carroll was key in the centre, guiding the new players and working hard.
Awards: Leilani Lightowler, Kaylee Nalder and Matilda Carroll.
C grade: Drouin 30 defeated Maffra 21
This was a tough, physical match against Maffra; certainly far from pretty.
The Hawks found it hard to get any real flow and some unforced errors kept the margin from being pushed out beyond 10 goals.
Alice McKellar was great for the Hawks in centre. Her work rate, effort and consistency is such an asset for the team. Her great form has been rewarded with B grade games.
With a few key players away, young duo Cleo Traumanis and Chloe Walsh stepped up in defence. Cleo rebounded beautifully and Chloe controlled the ball when transitioning from defence into attack.
Awards: Alice McKellar and Chloe Walsh.
17 and under: Drouin 44 defeated Maffra 37
This was a confidence boosting win for the Hawks, with the team showing increased connection and strong plays.
Fiona Nalder had a fantastic game in goal attack, keeping composure under physical pressure and using her speed to cut into the goal circle. Fiona was accompanied by Cleo Traumanis, who used her height and strong holding skills to allow midcourters Emmy Kneebone and Leilani Lightowler to feed into the circle easily.
In defence, Livia Pask had a strong game in goal keeper, boxing out her opponents for rebounds and reading the play as the ball approached the circle.
Awards: Fiona Nalder and Olivia Pask.
15 and under: Drouin 29 defeated Maffra 22
The Hawks delivered a strong, gritty performance in a physical battle.
The girls worked tirelessly in defence, struggling to convert early but finding their way eventually.
Annabelle Stephens in goal defence and Makayla Monckton in wing defence were both great for Drouin, leading the defensive effort. When Annabelle moved out to goal defence, she found herself free to run, read the play and time her movements to attack the ball. Makaylah worked hard in both the defensive and attacking phases. Her speed and drive was crucial in ball transition.
The Hawks' attack worked hard to convert their chances and were smart when shooting, working to get close to post in the wind.
Awards: Makayla Monckton and Annabelle Stephens.
13 and under: Drouin 24 lost to Maffra 26
Drouin put up a great fight against Maffra. Despite defeat, the girls showed incredible strength and determination, especially in the final quarter of a physical and tough match.
Pia Pask and Caitlin Muggeridge stood out with their impressive versatility and reliability across the court, stepping up when it mattered most.
A key turning point came with the strategic decision to move Scarlett Walker into the centre. Her dynamic drives and court awareness proved to be a game-changer, opening up play and creating crucial opportunities.
