Forfeits aplenty in division five

by Samuel Laffy
The lower grades of the WDCA often act as the initial training grounds for many players who eventually rise through to the upper echelons of the league.

Whilst those in third and fourth XIs might not be as celebrated as others, they play a key role in ensuring clubs not only survive but prosper.
Unfortunately, a host of shortages across several clubs saw nary a ball bowled in the opening round of division five. It is hoped by many involved with the league that squads will be bolstered in the near future.
Neerim District (7/84) def. Longwarry (81)
Whilst Neerim District's first XI have endured a tough start to the 2025/26 season, the Stags' second XI enjoyed a far more fruitful beginning to their campaign, taking home a three-wicket win over Longwarry.
Scant information is available for the fixture, but in pursuit of Longwarry's 81 - a total made possible by a boundary-laden 23 from Daniel Waite and a staggering 35 extras - Neerim District overcame some top order wobbles caused by Waite (2/26 from 7) and Craig Melville (2/19 off 4) to sneak over the line in the 20th over; the scoreboard reading 7/84.
Catani def. Garfield-Tynong by forfeit.
Western Park def. Yarragon by forfeit.
Hallora def. Iona by forfeit.
