Eagles soar into five

by Davyd Reid
Ellinbank comfortably accounted for Catani to move into the Ellinbank District football top five.

A consistent four quarter performance saw the Eagles prevail 19-14 (128) to 6-12 (48) and put them in the box seat for another finals appearance.
Catani's defence held up well early with the Blues going long from half back to expose the Ellinbank defence and put through the opener via Lachlan Seppings.
The Eagles were barely troubled from there, putting through 10 consecutive goals to open a handy buffer.
Anthony Battista was particularly prominent forward of centre, putting through four goals through to the ninth-minute of the second quarter as Ellinbank kicked away.
One of those was set up from a precision kick from Tim Mashado, Battista's run also troubling the Catani defence as he began to get off the chain.
Ellinbank began picking options off through the middle from half back to further trouble the Blues' defence.
Bryce Joyce got a couple of looks ahead of the ball to put through two majors as Ellinbank kicked out to a 51-point lead at the long break.
Cambell Jolly made it a fast start to begin the second term as Ellinbank took control of the contest, despite Aaron Knight pegging one back into time on.
Dean Smith, Trent Adams, Brodie White, Seppings, Jordan White and Thomas Keily continued to battle against the odds for the Blues, but could do little to stop Ellinbank's onslaught.
Six goals to one in the third term put the result beyond doubt, before the contest petered out with three goals apiece to finish.
Playing predominantly in the forward line in the second half, Bryce Joyce continued to mark everything that came his way for a further six majors to finish with eight for the afternoon.
Ryan Atherton, Logan Joyce, Jordan Kingi, Battista and Mashado were also prominent over the course of the afternoon.
