A 41-point win over Dalyston away from home has seen Warragul Industrials move to fourth on the league ladder on Saturday.
The Dusties overcame a slow start on the scoreboard to take control after quarter time, eventually seeing off the Magpies 14.15 (99) to 8.10 (58).
A six-goal-to-one barrage in the second term set the visitors up for victory, turning a 16-point deficit at quarter time into a 17-point lead at the half.
From there they had answers to every question Dalyston could muster, increasing their lead at every break to register a comfortable win.
The win has come at a cost, however, after playing coach Bob McCallum suffered what looked like a serious knee injury in the third quarter.
After going up for a mark, McCallum was bumped off balance in the air and landed awkwardly, leaving the ground with fears his season could very well be over with a suspected ACL injury.
Bailey Beck provided plenty of grunt both up forward and on the ball to be his side's best player for the day, his injection into the midfield helping to turn the tide after their lacklustre first term.
The defensive trio of Wilson McGillivray, Kyan Willis and Sam Russell stood tall as required to deny the Magpies momentum on the scoreboard when they had periods on top around the ground.
Todd Beck put in a typically hard effort around the ball while Aaron Mitchell enjoyed one of his finest performances of the season with more time in the middle.
For the Magpies playing coach Mitch Hallahan (four goals) provided their only consistent conduit to goal, almost singlehandedly keeping the home side in the fight at various stages.
While he could have done with more help, it was an outstanding individual effort.
Bradley Tilley and Fraser West did their level best to give Dalyston a chance along with Ben Lewis, Dino Karamoshos and Michael Marotta.
The first 15 minutes told a different story to how the rest of the game would play out as Dalyston made all the early moves.
Brady O'Toole kicked the first in general play within 30 seconds as the Magpies' three unanswered goals for the quarter had the home fans up and about while causing a some concern for the Dusties supporters who had come to Bass Coast.
Hallahan was tearing it up and while the Dusties worked their way into the day past that point and gave themselves enough opportunities to even things out, the inaccuracy that plagued them throughout last week's thrilling win over Cora Lynn appeared to be rearing its ugly head again.
Down by 16 at quarter time, McCallum was looking for a response – and he got one.
Within minutes the Dusties worked their way into running into an open goal, Lachy Braybon making no mistake to nail his side's first. McCallum got in on the action not long after, grabbing a mark in the pocket and slotting the shot to bring things back to an even keel.
From there they continued to grab the game by the scruff of the neck
Forward line recruit Tim Hancock (four goals) provided a solid target for the visitors as he eases his way back from his concussion earlier this season.
Mitchell (two goals) and Nic Visser (two goals) also were dangerous around the big sticks when the Dusties made their move, Mitchell especially causing some havoc at ground level.
Leading by 17 points at half time there was still scope for a Dalyston comeback early in the third quarter.
Hancock quickly looked to snuff that out, getting on the end of slick ball movement to push the visitors' lead out further. Will Gibson did the same not long after, throwing the ball on the boot and floating one through.
And by the time Ben Nichol pounced on a wayward defensive handball, the margin was out beyond five goals.
The Dusties had finally put their kicking boots on, eventually putting through 5.2 to the Magpies' 2.4 for the quarter to push 33 points ahead at three quarter time.
Hallahan slotted another early in the last to have his team again ask the question of the Dusties.
But Mitchell was happy to provide the answer, responding with a set shot goal and restoring his side's advantage.
Hancock and Visser finished off their days in style, the latter grabbing the ball out of the ruck and snapping truly for a beauty. Not bad for the league's smallest big man.
The Dusties missed some opportunities to really blow the margin out, but regardless still got to boost their percentage, if only a little.
Despite his injury, McCallum said it was the most consistent effort from his team to this point.
"We've been really hunting that four quarter effort and Saturday looked the best of the games we've played, outside of that first 15 minutes our intent was right up there," he said.
"I've been saying it all year we're looking to improve our baseline and I think that was the best it's been this year."
Thanks to Phillip Island's loss the Dusties are now two wins clear of the closest teams outside the top six. Their next couple of games against Koo wee rup (eighth) and Phillip Island (fifth) could be consequential in the race for finals.
