Dusties aiming for top six
4 min read

It's a massive week in the West Gippsland Football Netball Competition, as fifth, sixth, seventh and eighth all play each other.
With the lower parts of the top six still up for grabs, it's going to be an impactful weekend of footy regardless of who wins.
Kilcunda Bass vs Warragul Industrials
Warragul Industrials face what might just be the biggest game of their season to this point as they travel away to face Kilcunda Bass.
The Dusties are in seventh with four wins and five losses, just one win behind sixth-placed Dalyston, who have lost three of their last four and appear gettable.
Breathing down their necks in eighth with an identical record are Kilcunda Bass.
It makes for an intriguing match-up here. With Dalyston facing another tough game this round it could mean that whoever wins here could find themselves in the top six by the end of Saturday.
Both sides have faced similar trajectories this season.
Against the lower sides they've been more than good enough to get the job done, but have found themselves a step or two behind the best.
Warragul Industrials faced a stern challenge from Garfield last week as they missed a number of senior players, but with a number of them returning they'll hope that returning experience can give them an edge.
Kilcunda Bass, meanwhile, will need to bounce back after a sizeable loss to Nar Nar Goon.
The Panthers have had more trouble than the Dusties in some of their matches, including a difficult match against Bunyip they managed to scrape through.
Regardless, there's plenty on the line for both teams.
The winner will be well and truly in the race for a finals position, while for the loser it's back to playing catch-up for a few weeks.
Koo wee rup vs Garfield
Garfield lost no admirers during their defeat to Warragul Industrials last week, but now a real opportunity presents itself against Koo wee rup.
The Stars have shown enough good signs this season to think they're a better team than the 2022 edition, but regardless currently find themselves on a four-game losing streak.
Their match against the Dusties was representative of their season thus far.
Garfield's best can be quite good, and challenge most opposition teams they face, but they just can't sustain it.
They were right in the game last week before running out of energy in the final term, barely being able to get the ball forward. Those poor patches are what have left them where they are at tenth on the table
Like the Stars, the Demons sit at just two wins to this point of the season.
They snapped their seven-game losing streak last week, finally tasting victory for the first time since round one in what's been a tough season for the red and blue.
Both teams will see themselves as a genuine chance here, and the winner will take a lot of confidence as we move into the second half of the season.
Tooradin-Dalmore vs Bunyip
It's been a tough few weeks for Bunyip.
The club's struggles on the field this year have been well-known for a while now, and as their young players navigate the trials and tribulations of senior footy the hits have kept coming.
To this point the Bulldogs are yet to win a game, and over the last four weeks they've lost their matches by 199, 151, 130 and 138 points respectively.
It's been a brutal run, given they've had to play four top six sides all in a row.
And unfortunately, things don't get much easier here as they head off to face the reigning premiers.
Tooradin-Dalmore are on track in their quest for back-to-back premierships, having lost just the one game to this point.
They're on a five-game winning streak and looking every bit the champion team that conquered the competition last season.
Bunyip will have some relief after this match with a four-week stretch against lower teams to come, but until then it's looking likely they'll have to endure one more thrashing/
Other games
Nar Nar Goon and Dalyston face off in a match that will have plenty of consequences for the top six.
Sitting at fifth and sixth respectively, the result here will put the loser in danger of losing their spot.
Dalyston have looked the shakier of the two in recent weeks, and will be up against it to recapture their strong early-season form.
Cora Lynn takes on Inverloch-Kongwak away from home.
The Cobras were earnest but just not quite good enough as they fell to Phillip Island last week, and may fall back into the pack soon if they suffer too many more losses.
It's going to be extremely tough to get the win here given the Sea Eagles are currently undefeated and haven't looked close to dropping a game in weeks.
Finally Phillip Island hosts Korumburra Bena.
The Bulldogs are in strong form at the moment and with the Giants struggling in eleventh, a big Phillip Island win is on the cards.
