Drouin's junior netballers had a fantastic day out against Morwell on Saturday, winning all three games.
The senior grades put on some entertaining netball but the results didn't fall their way.
A grade: Drouin 46 lost to Morwell 50
This match was a delight for the spectators, with only a handful of goals separating the two teams from start to finish.
The first quarter set the tone, with Morwell getting off to a good start but Drouin pegging back the lead to be tied at 11-all at quarter time.
Drouin had the luxury of fresh legs in the midcourt, bringing Christie Edwards and Ava Gaul into the mix. Christie was able to find circle edge to feed superbly into goal shooter Charlize Traumanis, who had another strong game despite being under plenty of physical pressure.
Drouin won the third quarter and there was just two goals in it going into the last. Drouin defenders April Bethune and Lucy McKellar got quite a few tips and turnovers to boost the team's energy.
It was game on in the final quarter, with lots of play going from one end to the other without scoring due to the intense pressure. It came down to the final five minutes, with Drouin just one goal down and ready to pounce. However, Morwell won back ball and strung together a few goals in a row to secure the win.
Award: Ava Gaul.
B grade: Drouin 48 lost to Morwell 57
This was a tough hit out for the Hawks against a sharp-shooting Morwell side.
Drouin started the game a little slowly. However, once they found their rhythm, the pace lifted and the contest really came alive. While the scoreboard didn't reflect how close the game felt, the Hawks were well and truly in the hunt throughout, showing grit and determination even when trailing.
The second quarter saw a noticeable shift in intensity and purpose. Morwell's goalers were in fine form, barely missing a shot and giving the defenders little to work with. That said, the defensive effort right across the court was relentless, forcing errors and creating extra scoring chances.
The girls kept pushing and managed to close the gap to just three goals in the final quarter, but ultimately couldn't maintain that momentum through to the end.
Awards: Matilda Carroll and Jess Murray.
C grade: Drouin 35 lost to Morwell 41
The Hawks were a bit light on numbers for the game, which meant not many chances for rotations up against the top team.
The Hawks put up a strong fight and gave it everything right to the final whistle. However, in the end, they just couldn't quite match the Tigers' depth and polish.
Ali McArthur had another brilliant game in goal keeper and was named best on court. She was up against a tall, accurate shooter and some slick feeders, but her footwork and timing were spot on. The combination with Chloe Walsh in defence helped turn over a lot of ball, and her leadership across the court really lifted the team.
Alice McKellar also had a cracker of a game, putting on the pressure from the get-go. She made her opponent earn every pass and stayed composed when bringing the ball down the court, with great hustle and determination all game.
Awards: Ali McArthur and Alice McKellar.
17 and under: Drouin 49 defeated Morwell 35
A great win for Drouin, showing continued growth and connection throughout the court.
Fiona Nalder worked hard throughout the whole game in goal attack, applying defensive pressure to help out her teammates and creating great passages of play for goaler Cleo Traumanis.
In the defensive end, Izzy Maloney brought intensity to the court, keeping pressure on her wing attack and causing unforced errors in the opposing side.
Awards: Fiona Nalder and Izzy Maloney.
15 and under: Drouin 35 defeated Morwell 19
The Hawks had a great team game, working hard for a full four quarters.
The girls worked tirelessly in defence to create lots of pressure down the court. Annabel Stephens and Alual Majak combined well in defence, creating plenty of turnovers.
Ava Pask and Sophie Cassidy were strong in the midcourt, creating angles and feeding into the goalers accurately. Evie Piner moved into goal attack and created great space and angles, isolating the Hawks' holding shooter.
Awards: Annabelle Stephens and Evie Piner.
13s and under: Drouin 33 defeated Morwell 23
The Hawks were outstanding to score their second win in a row.
Everyone played their role beautifully, which is exactly why they all received an award. The Hawks' defensive pressure was strong from the start, and they brought the ball down the court with confidence and control. The shooters worked well together and finished off the team's hard work with great accuracy. A fantastic all-around performance.
Awards: All players.
