Bloods win Waterloo battle

Trafalgar has climbed into fourth position on the A grade ladder after a five-goal win over Yarragon to retain the "Battle of Waterloo" trophy on Saturday.
Longwarry dropped to fifth after being unable to stick with undefeated Neerim South beyond the first quarter. The Cats won 63-36.
Bunyip and Poowong also played out a fantastic contest, with the Bulldogs getting up 39-36, whilst Buln Buln found form in a 47-36 win over Catani.
Second placed Nilma Darnum impressed with a 78-32 win over Lang Lang and third placed Ellinbank lodged a strong 94-38 win over Nyora.
With finals positions on the line, Trafalgar and Yarragon put on an entertaining contest.
After a goal-for-goal start, Panthers' goaler Tayla Green had a four-goal run late in the first quarter to open a three-goal lead. Not to be outdone, the Bloods hit back with an 11-goal run either side of quarter time to lead 19-11. They held this margin to half-time.
The Panthers certainly didn't give up, going on a seven-goal run to cut the margin back to four goals. However, the Bloods pushed it out again to six by the last break.
The last quarter was fairly even, but the Bloods kept a comfortable margin and came out winners.
Little separated Bunyip and Poowong across 60 minutes on Saturday.
The Bulldogs led by three at quarter time, scores were tied at half-time and the Bulldogs had a slight two-goal lead at the last break, keeping all spectators invested. The three-goal loss was disappointing for the young Magpies who are in the fight for the all-important fifth position to make finals.
Catani would have been hoping to be amongst those jostling for finals but Buln Buln had other ideas, with a 16-9 opening quarter. Whilst the Blues came back to level the contest, the Lyrebirds put their second win of the season beyond doubt with an 18-7 third quarter.
There will be some vital games on Saturday, with the top four all playing each other and some finals hopefuls battling for the four points.
Next week's games: Bunyip v Buln Buln, Ellinbank v Nilma Darnum, Neerim South v Trafalgar, Longwarry v Poowong, Lang Lang v Nyora, Yarragon v Catani.
