Aztecs' Bowen McMaster fires towards goal in the under 15s on Saturday.
Friday night saw the Gippsland Strikers under 14s make the road trip to Dandenong to take on Southern United.
After last week's 25-0 demolition, the Strikers were hoping for some stiffer competition. Although the final score was 10-0, Southern took the attack right up to the Strikers multiple occasions but their backline held firm.
It was a great hit out for the entire team to help get them focussed for the business end of the season.
Goal scorers were Caleb Ballantyne, Oliver Fallon, Spencer Stephens and Jacob Mock with two each. Flynn Furphy and Damian McNamara scored one each.
Next week the under 14s are once again away on the road playing Croydon Rangers Thunderbolts at Yarra Valley Grammar at 7:45pm.
For the third time this year the under 18s had the night off due to the opposition deciding not to travel to see the lovely sights of West Gippsland.
A 5-0 forfeit win was the result, which leaves Gippsland at the top of the ladder despite playing two games in nine weeks. Hopefully a game will be held next Friday as they travel to Mentone for a 7:15pm match.
The Strikers women headed on a long journey to Bendigo to meet North West Lightning.
In very wintry conditions Lightning got the jump on the Strikers and were 2-0 at quarter time.
The Strikers battled hard, tackling strongly and using the sidelines well to rebound out of defence, but ultimately it was Lightning who ran away with the win 7-0.
Goalkeeper Helen Timbury and the team of backs were consistently all in the right places, but couldn't quite keep the ball from the goals.
The Strikers men defeated Collegians-X Hockey Club 7-0.
Goal scorers were Matthew Zurrer with three, Mark Robjant with two, Jordan Oellermann and Will Callanan one each.
Last Monday night the Strikers masters side went up against Doncaster Hockey Club.
With a sub on their side and a lovely coach and faithful supporters, they were armed and ready.
Play seemed messy and heated as times through the game. Lots of rough passes and missed hits on both sides.
Robin Wells was man of the match and he definitely earned it as he dominated the centre field. He also took two goals, one from a short corner and another from a penalty shot. He had skills and experience on show for all to see.
James Lightfoot also managed a lovely goal to take Strikers to the winning circle for the night.
The final score was 3-2 the Strikers' way.
