Four wins for Hawks

The Hawks secured four wins for the Anzac Day commemoration round, with tough contests all day and rain for the senior grades.
One Drouin player from each grade was awarded an Anzac medal for displaying courage and spirit.
A grade: Drouin 62 defeated Wonthaggi 34
Drouin returned home with a convincing win. It was a strong team game with all players implementing the game plan for a full four quarters.
April Bethune and Lainey Downie combined well in the defensive circle, claiming many turnovers and rebounds with the aid of pressure out front from Reagan Joyce and Christie Edwards.
In the attack end, Karina Healey put her experience and sharp shooting on display and earnt herself the Anzac medal. She was assisted by Charlize Traumanis who had a strong game, pulling in some tough balls against physical defenders. Stacie Gardiner was ever reliable in wing attack, creating angles and feeding the goalers beautifully.

B grade: Drouin 33 lost to Wonthaggi 59
With several players out across the board, the B grade side faced a true test of depth and versatility.
Stepping up to the challenge, the team welcomed juniors into the mix against Wonthaggi's experienced line-up. It was a high-intensity game that had everyone testing the legs with extended minutes. Despite a strong effort, the Hawks couldn't quite clutch the win, but the fight was there until the final whistle.
Matilda Carroll, awarded the Anzac Day medal, was a standout across the court. Her relentless pressure in defence and dynamic drives in attack kept Drouin in the contest and lifted everyone on court.
In the defensive circle, Leilani Lightowler and Jess Murray were thrown into tough matchups against speedy and accurate goalers. Despite being a new pairing, they quickly connected and worked together to turn over some crucial ball.

C grade: Drouin 35 lost to Wonthaggi 42
This was a tough loss for the Hawks after a game played with high effort and intensity.
The Hawks were undermanned, with juniors Alual Majak (under 15s), Chloe Walsh and Cleo Traumanis (under 17s) stepping up to the challenge.
Kate Butler played a fantastic game in centre, being a steady engine throughout the entire match. She won the Anzac medal.

17 and under: Drouin 39 defeated Wonthaggi 28
The Hawks were ready and eager to play, wanting to come back after a tough loss.
After a goal-for-goal opening quarter, the girls pulled together, established a lead and stretched it out with each consecutive quarter.
Chloe Walsh had a stellar game in goal defence, with a fantastic work rate and intensity to get key intercepts. Alongside Chloe was Anzac medal winner Izzy Maloney, who was strong, consistent and attentive to feedback to adjust her game, and Livia Pask was also steady in setting up defensive turnovers.
Midcourters Leilani Lightowler, Emmy Kneebone and Jemma Maloney were speedy, quick and had some good passages of play to feed the goalers. Cleo Traumanis and Fiona Nalder were goaling with accuracy and showed great communication.

15 and under: Drouin 57 defeated Wonthaggi 5
The Hawks are now three from three.
The team tried out some different combinations, showing the depth and variability of the side.
Chloe Gargan had a superb game in goals, shooting at 93 per cent. Karli Mapleson and Alual Majak, who won the Anzac medal, continue to build as a defensive pair. Their pressure was constant and resulted in clean intercepts all game.

13 and under: Drouin 31 def Wonthaggi 16
A great team effort has resulted in another well-deserved win. Everyone played their role and contributed to a strong, united performance.
Lara Hammond was outstanding in the ring, showing great determination and excellent shooting. She won the Anzac medal.
Libby Walsh led with confidence in defence, keeping the defence end organised and encouraging her teammates throughout. Nancy Carroll worked tirelessly through the midcourt, providing consistent drive and linking both ends of the court beautifully.
