Warragul District Amateur Basketball Association ran a special "3x3" basketball tournament at the Warragul Leisure Centre last Tuesday.
Junior teams from the WDABA were joined by teams from across Gippsland and from Melbourne at the special school holiday tournament. About 50 teams competed, both boys and girls, in divisions from under 11s up to under 17s.
The Warragul Warriors under 14 boys squad team ran a sausage sizzle on the day as it fundraises to travel to Perth. It follows the team qualifying for the National Club Championships in October.
The 3x3 basketball concept features two teams fielding three players as opposed to the regular five. Players do not have a coach during the games.
Matches are played on a half court, with teams gaining possession having to take the ball outside the three-point line before they can shoot. The game is a free flowing spectacle with lots of points scored.
