A heart-warming moment of serendipity recently occurred at the Baw Baw Food Relief op shop.
When a beautiful, framed painting made its way into the donations sorting centre, op-shop co-ordinator Diane Gregory was intrigued.
Curious to learn more about the painting, Diane decided to look up the artist, Helen Leach.
"Before I put a price on it (the painting), I looked it up, because you never know if you'll find that million dollar piece of artwork," Diane said.
Her search took her straight to Helen Leach's Facebook page.
Diane decided to send a message to the Facebook page, reaching out to say that the beautiful painting had come into the op-shop. She didn't expect to hear anything back.
But later that evening, she received a reply from Helen's daughter, Claire.
"She said I was such an angel for reaching out about the painting because her mum died in 2018, and she was wondering if she could buy the piece," Diane said.
"She said she and her sister only checked their mum's Facebook page occasionally, but something told her to check it that day."
Claire wanted to give the painting to her father, so he could have a piece of Helen's artwork to display on his wall.
The next day, Claire made the journey from Melbourne to collect the painting. She donated $100 to the op-shop and gifted one of Helen's prints as a reminder of the special moment.
Diane and the op shop volunteers were happy to see the painting return to its home.
