Gaining tools to build wellness amongst staff

Local business leaders gained skills, tools and insights to build resilience and wellness in their workplaces during a recent business luncheon.

Featuring Mindfull Aus chief executive officer Matt Runnalls and keynote speaker Melissa Yu, the sold-out luncheon at Warragul Country Club attracted business leaders, managers and staff.
Having run workshops for parents, teachers and children in recent years, Mr Runnalls said Mindfull Aus had listened to its local community and the need to build healthy workplaces. "What the community needs, they get," he said.
Whilst a new concept, Mr Runnalls said the sold out room was "really receptive" across the three-hour workshop.
"We're very happy with how the day went and buy-in from the room," he added.
He hoped attendees walked away feeling more equipped and empowered to take steps to improve staff wellbeing and ultimately improve their business, noting "people are bigger than sales and KPIs."
"For every $1 invested in mental health in the workplace, there is a return of $4 in improved health and productivity," he said.
The vibes were high as Mr Runnalls took attendees through partner activities to kick start meaningful conversations.
Mr Runnalls spoke on the importance of conversations to foster a supportive working environment.
The activity followed Ms Yu from Mindfull Aus giving a keynote speech on building resilient teams and prioritising mental health in a thriving workplace.
Whilst running a business is rewarding, the workshop acknowledged it also was demanding. Stress, overwhelm and burnout can creep in, leaving mental health on the backburner.
Ms Yu shared strategies to reduce stress as well as practical advice to protect mental wellbeing.
The business luncheon was part of the "Be Business Ready" series of workshops hosted by Baw Baw Shire with support from the state government's "Council Flood Support Fund."
