Almost two-thirds of drug drivers detected in Victoria in the past year were caught during daylight hours.
And more than twice as many were nabbed on a weekday than on the weekend.
The Victoria Police statistics were backed up when a 30-year-old Drouin man was arrested for drug driving in Warragul last Tuesday at 1.10pm.
Baw Baw Highway Patrol reported they intercepted a white Nissan Qashqai in Phoenix St.
They said the driver provided a false name before returning a positive test for a drug of dependence.
It is alleged a small bag of methamphetamine was located in a subsequent vehicle search.
The Drouin man was arrested and released pending summons.
In a separate incident, a 52-year-old Longwarry man was arrested after drugs were allegedly found in his vehicle.
Police said they intercepted a white Ford Ranger ute due to erratic driving on Princes Way, Drouin in the vicinity of Robin Hood on Wednesday at 1am.
Although the driver appeared substance affected, police said he returned a negative drug test. However, they allege cannabis was located in the vehicle.
The man was charged and bailed to appear at Latrobe Valley Magistrates' Court on July 15.
In response to recent statistics, Victoria Police said they were scheduling special daytime and early-morning operations to keep drug drivers on their toes and reminded all drivers that they test for drugs around-the-clock.
Figures show about 5200 of the 8400 drug drivers detected in the past financial year were caught between 6am and 6pm. It compares with almost 3200 detected between 6pm and 6am.
Friday had the most detections of any day with 1400, ahead of Saturday, Sunday and Thursday.
State Highway Patrol acting inspector Kevin Vincent said "drugs cause more deaths on our roads than alcohol - it's just not worth the risk".
"People might think illicit drug use is confined to the weekend but the reality is our members are seeing people getting behind the wheel on illicit substances right across the week.
"We are out anywhere, anytime testing for drugs. There really is nowhere to hide."
Victoria Police conduct about 150,000 roadside drug tests each year and anyone caught faces heavy fines and a loss of licence.
