The Strikers men took on Melton, seeking redemption after their last meeting where the Strikers led early but couldn't close it out.
Gippsland dominated from the first whistle, creating pressure and scoring early in the first quarter through Samuel Tyson, finishing off a great passage of team play.
Not long after, Matt Zurrer doubled the lead with a well-struck shot into the back of the net.
Despite creating plenty more chances, the Strikers left opportunities begging, and a few undisciplined turnovers allowed Melton back into the game, levelling the score 2-2 before half time.
The second half saw a much more disciplined performance, with everyone playing their roles and keeping cool under pressure.
Midway through the third quarter, Zurrer struck again from a penalty corner to regain the lead. The sealer came from Mark Robjant, who pounced on a rebound off the crossbar to bury the win.
Leith Metcalf, Scott Marks, and Steve Pearse were rock-solid in their positions, keeping the Melton attackers accountable all game.
Oscar Callahan stepped it up another gear this week, showing great composure and smart positioning throughout the match.
A strong team effort in a must-win game - exactly the response the Strikers needed.
