The latest exhibition at the WAS Gallery in Warragul showcases a variety of ceramic pieces from the late Judy Kefford's private collection.
Titled "The Judy Kefford Collection", the exhibition consists of more than 65 ceramic pieces selected from Judy's extensive collection which she acquired over 45 years.
Judy was born in 1927 and died in 2021. She was a supporter of Australian ceramic artists and a creative person in her own right.
She graduated from the University of Melbourne with a qualification in science, which was rare for women at that time. Judy was a foundation member of the Women Electoral Lobby and devoted wife and mother.
She studied ikebana (Japanese floral designs) for numerous years and qualified as a teacher from the Sogestu School.
Creating ikebana designs in her many ceramic vessels became one of her passions and she filled her home with many floral creations.
Judy also enjoyed creating haute couture fashion for larger sizes, studying gemmology, and jewellery making.
To celebrate Judy's love for ikebana and ceramics, ikebana teachers Aileen Clarke and Susan Healey were invited to the exhibition opening last month.
They demonstrated ikebana design and skills to the large audience who enjoyed the unique Japanese ways of arranging flowers and foliage and how the designed related to and enhanced the pots they adorned.
"The Judy Kefford Collection" has come to WAS Gallery through the generous support of family members, Bruce Kefford and Janice Hunter who live in West Gippsland.
The exhibition was curated by Gary McPhedran, WAS Gallery's resident artist and potter. Gary has extensive knowledge of Australian ceramics and has produced a coherent and exciting selection.
Many of the pieces in the exhibition are by renowned potters including Milton Moon, Greg Daly, Judy Lorraine and the Japanese potter, Hiroe Swen.
The exhibition will be on display at the WAS Gallery in Warragul until Saturday July 19. The Gallery is open between 10am and 4pm every Wednesday to Saturday.
