Earn cash for returning eligible drink cans, bottles and cartons at eight sites now open across West Gippsland.
The 10-cent refund points were launched across Victoria on Wednesday, with options available in Warragul, Drouin, Bunyip, Neerim South, Trafalgar, Longwarry and Garfield.
Three more sites will open in the next two months in Trafalgar, Lang Lang and Warragul.
Launching the container deposit scheme, Minister for Environment Steve Dimopoulos said it would reduce Victoria's litter by up to half while putting money back in the pockets of Victorians.
He said it would generate more than 600 jobs across the state and turn used drink containers into new, recycled products.
There will be four types of refund points on offer - reverse vending machines, depots, over-the-counter or pop-up. Depending on the site, people may be able to choose whether they want to receive the refund in the form of cash, a retail voucher or an electronic refund.
Alternatively, refunds can be donated to a charity or community organisation registered with the scheme.
Return-It has been appointed as the network operator for Gippsland and South East Melbourne.
The Australian company said the Victorian scheme would provide an important opportunity to reduce litter and increase recycling rates, and the team looked forward to working closely with the community to ensure its success.
Refund points in West Gippsland include: Return-It in Warragul and Drouin, IGA supermarkets in Bunyip and Neerim South, Trafalgar Scouts, Drouin Transfer Station, Longwarry Supermarket and Garfield Community Centre.
Future sites will be set up at IGA Trafalgar and Lang Lang Golf Club from November 30 as well as Monacellars Warragul from December 31.
Visit cdsvic.org.au for further information about the scheme and a map with the nearest refund points and opening hours.
